You’re Free to Re-script Your Life
I don't know about you, but I've spent far too much of my life trying to follow the script. At least, the one I thought I was supposed to follow.
Get a university education. Start a career. Have a family. Get loaded with debt until you can barely breathe. Rush around achieving things. Look good in front of others. Juggle lots of balls. Own a nice house. Grow this, build that. Spend time here, there and everywhere. Watch the news. Stay online.
I've come to realise that's exactly what it is — a script written by Society. There are some worthwhile things in that list, sure. But taken together? It's exhausting.
Many people reach their 50s and 60s — sometimes earlier, and if that's you, good for you — and think: I don't want to do this anymore. Or: That was then, but I want something different now. Something quieter. More creative. Less frantic. Something that actually feels like them.
The truth is, there is no script we have to follow.
We are free — have always been free — to write our own.
Our own version of what matters, what we value, what we want, and who we want to be. Especially in the second half of life.
So, a gentle challenge: question Society's script, work out what actually matters to you, and then live by that.
You're entirely free to write your own story.
What would you most like it to be?
